“I try to think that it’s not just me. I’m in a 200 person class and there’s at least one other person struggling as much as me. And going to those groups, I find out people are struggling. It’s not easy stuff! So that makes me feel better and sometimes I just put it down and come back when I feel a little better.”

What advice would you give new Oliveira Scholars to help them find resources to support their success?

“Since I’m in a small college, I can make connections with professors and classmates that help me meet other resources outside of campus like research programs or internships. This makes me feel like I have the right kind of people around me. The people that want everyone to succeed in their careers. So everyday I learn that making bonds with people is very essential if you want to achieve your dreams.”

What has the Oliveira Scholarship meant to your college experience?

“They [Oliveira Scholarship Foundation] are there to support me financially, but also they provide many different opportunities. And it helps me to, you know, keep going.”

“Growing up, I’ve always liked fixing things. As I’ve gone through high school, I’ve taken a lot of engineering courses through Project Lead the Way. It’s a program that focuses on introducing engineering to high school students so I spent all four years of my high school taking different engineering courses. And I got a really good concept of all the different types of engineering and that’s why I chose industrial engineering going into college.”
